The Biochar Malaysia Association in collaboration with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) will be organizing the BIOCHAR MALAYSIA CONFERENCE 2020 on Biochar: Green Material for Sustainable Future on September 22-23, 2020.

The main objective of the BIOCHAR MALAYSIA CONFERENCE 2020 is to recognize the critical values of biochar to our agriculture and environment. Worldwide, around 3 million hectares of agricultural land are lost each year because the soil degrades and becomes unusable due to erosion. As more land is lost, it will become more difficult to produce the amount of food needed to feed the growing human population.

In-line with United Nation Sustainable Development (SD) Goal no.2 which supports “Zero Hunger”, biochar promotes agricultural sector by remediation of infertile soil, boost germination, boost crops’ growth up to 5 times, and hence helping in food security. In addition, as in-line with SD Goal no.13 which supports “Climate Action”, biochar is regarded as carbon sequester and has a function in combating GHG emissions.

To strengthen on the active promotion of biochar related works, organizing ‘BIOCHAR MALAYSIA CONFERENCE 2020’ is seen as a strategic way to gather local and international biochar enthusiasts and networking in bringing forward the production, utilization and application of biochar for wider audiences.
